Frequently Asked Questions:
Most people believe in the existence of God and are curious about spiritual things, but many of these same people will never step foot in a church. This ministry represents our desire to bring the church to the individual on the street. We answer questions, distribute scriptures, and pray with people.
Our ministry is non-denominational, we do not represent any particular church or denomination. Our desire is to represent the body of Christ. We encourage others to read the scriptures for themselves and find a church they feel comfortable with. We as a family have been members of several different denominations over the years.
Our understanding is that the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible is the most accurate. But it is FOUR HUNDRED YEARS OLD. In that time, the meanings of words have changed and the archaic vocabulary and sentence structure make it very difficult to read. The version that we most freqently distribute on the street is the New King James Version (NKJV). The (NKJV) is based on the Textus Receptus (text as received) manuscripts the same as the original (KJV), but has been revised for easier reading. The Textus Receptus manuscripts were handed down generation after generation to the present day. All other modern Bible versions are based on older (scrap paper) manuscripts that are missing certain words and phrases. They are still usable and very readable, but are not nearly as reliable.

We have never bothered to obtain a permit from the city when we do our weekly ministry on the street corner. Our activities are most likely covered by the First Amendment. The times the police have checked on us, they seem to be more concerned about our safety than about any city ordinances. When we partner with other ministries in bigger outreaches. It's been easier to have the more established ministries obtain any necessary permits.
We often go into areas that are considered the "bad" part of town. After all of times we have been on the street, we have never been in fear for our lives. There have been some strange occurrences where we believe that we were supernaturally protected. We have been able to witness to some very dangerous people. One time we prayed with a man that told us afterward that he had been on his way to committ a murder, but he changed his mind after we prayed with him. We have seen God move on our behalf on many occasions. Most people that we meet are actually very respectful.
People frequently offer to make donations to our ministry on the street, but we do not accept donations in public. We are concerned that others might see this and think that this is the only reason we are out there (We do not profit financially from this ministry).
But, we do accept donations of Bibles and New Testaments (new or used) and other materials, which are all distrbuted free of charge. If you would like to donate materials visit our CONTACT page to make arrangements. We can now accept monitary donations through PayPal on our DONATE page.
In the past we have partnered with other ministries and churches to help organize outreaches around the city. Maybe you could connect us with like minded people.
Maybe you could join us on the street to pray or share your faith.
We believe God is moving this ministry to be duplicated in other locations. Similar ministries have been started in neighboring towns. People that have volunteered with us have taken this simple idea of street ministry back to their own town and made it their own.
It is our desire to see more churches, ministries and individual Christians making themselves accessible, and providing materials on the street. We are available to provide training and speak at your church or Bible study.
Images of Allison Hill:
This is 13th & Derry Streets. For the last few years, this is where the Lord has had us set up our stand. Most of the violent crime that happens in Harrisburg, happens within a couple of blocks of this intersection. This is the focal point of Allison Hill. We usually set up in front of the bank building on Sunday afternoons.
This picture was taken at 14th & Derry Streets in 2007. We try to have tracts available in all the different languages that we have encountered. Our first "Free Bibles" sign was strapped to a lawn chair with bungee cords.
This picture was taken at 16th & Market during a snow squall. For the first two years of this ministry, we went out year round. The Lord made it perfectly clear that it's ok to take a break. We now take time off through the colder months when there is little pedestrian traffic.
The next three pictures are from the Hall Manor Outreach that we helped organize (10-04-08). We partnered with Streets of Gold Ministries and individuals from Christian Life Assembly Church.
This group of young people are missionary trainees from the Harrisburg Discipleship Center (333 S 13th St Hbg). We had a time of fellowship and mutual encouragement when they visited at our stand at 13th & Derry (10-11-09).
